What to Expect:
We conduct extremely thorough audits. These are not quick one page assessments looking to make a sale. We provide independent, unbiased advice in a polished report 20-30 pages long, and give a prioritized list of recommendations.

The Audit Process
Prior to the Audit
The energy assessment process typically takes 3 to 4 hours, starting with an in-depth interview with the homeowner. During this discussion, we focus on understanding your concerns/priorities and plans for the home. We also review your fuel usage history and electrical usage.

Building Inspection & Infrared Imaging
Next, we conduct a thorough interior and exterior inspection of your home. Using an infrared camera, we assess wall insulation and search for potential air leaks. We take into account many aspects of the home and details from the interview to document concerns related to moisture, ventilation, insulation and HVAC appliance performance. We also inspect your windows and doors, and hot water heating.

Blower Door Test and Further Imaging
The next step involves performing a blower door test. This test uses a large fan to depressurize or pressurize your home, allowing us to measure how much air is escaping and pinpoint where the leaks are. Combined with another infrared scan, we can further narrow down major insulation and heat loss issues. All are captured and this is a great time for you the homeowner to feel where air is leaking into your house.

Indoor Air Quality
Every Audit includes an indoor air quality assessment. We measure metrics like particulate matter, volatile organic compounds, humidity, and CO2.
Health & Safety Testing
We test for carbon monoxide, a byproduct of fuel-burning appliances. We test for it in the ambient air, in any applicable HVAC equipment and appliances. We also test the efficiency of any combustion appliances. Additionally, we check the proper function of chimneys, flues, and exhaust fans.
Detailed Report & Project Design
The whole-house assessment provides an overview of your home’s current performance and highlights opportunities to enhance comfort, reduce energy costs, and improve durability. We provide a detailed report with recommended improvements that potentially could lower your heating and cooling costs by 20-45%, increase your property value, and make your home healthier and more comfortable.

Alternatively, we can also complete a Home Energy Assessment, which includes a walkthrough visual inspection of your home, with no testing.
